Paris is Burning depicts ballroom culture in 1980's New York. The film looks at how a community of Black and Latino gay and transgender New Yorkers build sustenance, creativity and family. It draws a series of incisive character portraits, writing a complex essay on class, race, identity, and the transformative powers of dance and performance. The screening will be accompanied by a special live performance.
Another Version of Events is the official Liverpool Biennial 2016 film programme. A selection of films influenced by genres including sci-fi, mockumentary, pseudo-documentary, mockbuster and ethnofiction is being screened every week throughout the Biennial.
