Sarah Browne (1981, Dublin, Ireland) and Jesse Jones (1978, Dublin, Ireland) live in Dublin. Browne and Jones are collaborating on In the Shadow of the State, a project addressing the regulation of the female body under the nation state and capitalism. The project is unfolding through a series of four performative events in Ireland and the UK throughout 2016, including a digital broadcast from Liverpool titled The Truncheon and the Speculum, as part of Liverpool Biennial 2016.

The artists have each made numerous works within and outside gallery spaces, and have extensive experience working in collaborative contexts and through public art commissions with institutions such as Project Arts Centre, Dublin, Ireland; the Irish Museum of Modern Art, Dublin, Ireland; the Istanbul Biennale, Turkey and Artsonje Seoul, Korea. Browne co-represented Ireland at the Venice Biennale in 2009 and Jones will represent Ireland at the forthcoming Venice Biennale in 2017.
