For Liverpool Biennial 2016, artist Lara Favaretto has created Momentary Monument – The Stone, a 24-tonne granite boulder. It is hollow, and passers-by can drop money into it through a slot. This new work is part of the artist’s Momentary Monuments series, which testifies to the temporary nature of all monuments, and the impossibility of memorialisation. At the end of the Biennial, the boulder will be destroyed. The funds collected will be donated to a local charity, Asylum Link Merseyside, an organisation dedicated to assisting asylum seekers and refugees, and raising public awareness around refugee issues. Take a virtual tour with curator Rosie Cooper and visit Favaretto's sculpture on Liverpool's Welsh Streets until 16 October 2016.
