Boat Zhang – Performative Talk

Boat Zhang, Lot's Girlfriend (performance), 2018

Boat Zhang, Lot's Girlfriend (performance), 2018

Join us for this performative talk by Shanghai-based artist Boat Zhang.

Boat Zhang is currently in residency with Liverpool Biennial as part of Liverpool 2018’s China Dream season, in collaboration with the Shanghai Biennale and the Centre for Chinese Contemporary Art (CFCCA).

Boat Zhang Xiaochuan (b. 1983 in Yuyao, China) lives and works between Shanghai and various places in Japan. She graduated from Goldsmiths University of London in 2007. Boat feels art is more about a game in daily life rather than 'art production'. Her work is often situational, site-specific and based on improvisation. Using body, image, text and sound, her works are inspired by everyday events and personal relationships. Boat raises questions and reacts to situations, considering herself as an example of a human being. She also writes and makes books. Her work has been exhibited in the UK, Japan and China. She is a member of the Japanese artist group TEAM YAMEYO.
