Inside the cavernous Toxteth Reservoir,  Rita McBride’s large-scale installation Portal (2016) represents an opening between real and fictional worlds. It is a wormhole created with laser-beams, in the form of a hyperbola – a smooth symmetrical curve with two branches, produced by the section of a conical surface.
