Children imagine the space between fiction and reality differently from adults, sometimes making no distinction between the two. Take a sneak peek at some of the major commissions artists and children have created together for the Children’s Episode of Liverpool Biennial 2016.

Marvin Gaye Chetwynd has collaborated with nearly 80 local children and young people to create Dogsy Ma Bone, a new film and live performance presented at Cains Brewery.

Paying homage to the messages taken on board NASA’s Voyager spacecraft in 1977, Hato and pupils from Childwall Sports & Science Academy have transformed an Arriva double-decker bus into a functioning artwork called Hello Future Me. Number 79 is now on the road.

Artist Koki Tanaka revisited the 1985 School Students’ Strike in which 10,000 children demonstrated against the government’s Youth Training Scheme by retracing the route with some of the original participants. The event was filmed and is presented at Open Eye Gallery.

Liverpool Biennial 2016 takes places across the city’s public spaces, unused buildings and galleries from 9 July until 16 October.
