On 11 October 2014, the International Biennial Association Summit brought together international representatives of the IBA with professionals worldwide that organise periodic and Biennial festivals, to collectively explore a range of Biennial models.
Panel 1: Pedagogical models in Biennial practice was chaired by Sally Tallant (Liverpool Biennial) with presentations by Mônica Hoff (Artist and Educator, Porto Alegre), Nevenka Sivavec (Ljubljana Biennial), Evelyn Holm (Bergen Assembly, Norway).
In Liverpool we have been developing a model of an international Biennial that is continuous and operates in the city through ongoing strands of research and production, recognising the complex and interrelated networks locally and connecting them to national and international contexts and partners. Against this backdrop, the summit focuses on three key questions: What is necessary (t)here?; How is the Biennial and the identity of the city intertwined?; What models are needed for the future?
