Combining ceramics and painting in an unprecedented way, Betty Woodman was an artist unbound by tradition. She was the first female living artist to have a major retrospective at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and her work contains many references from Matisse and Picasso to Egyptian ceramics. Her work is presented at the Cooper Gallery in Barnsley, South Yorkshire – an area with a long history of ceramics connected to the River Dearne. The exhibition is running from 19 January – 7 April 2018.

Betty Woodman's work is presented as part of the Liverpool Biennial touring programme, which brings works by international artists presented at the 2016 festival of contemporary art to five arts organisations in the North of England.
