A unique opportunity to experience Steve Boyland live responses to the deeply immersive properties of Jorge Macchi’s installation and the remarkable acoustical qualities of his LJMU Copperas Hill space.
Steve Boyland’s solo improvisations draw inspiration from the contours, colours and textures of visual art and dance, free jazz, the modernist dissonances of Neue Musik and shamanic tones of World Music. His vocalisations emerge as abstract, enigmatic song-form; as extended, sculptural journeys in voice and spirit, somehow bisecting, shaping and re-defining space and time.
Steve Boyland is one of the UK’s busiest and most accomplished improvising voice artists, with a growing portfolio of acclaimed collaborations with a host of international music, visual arts and dance practitioners.
Recent projects have included improvised interventions with Bob and Roberta Smith at Niet Normaal, Mondkind in conjunction with Berlin guitarist Casper Brozmann and 687 Performance in Cologne, and a series of site-specific interventions for voice with singer Maggie Nicols at Serralves em Festa.
