Liverpool-based new music ensemble Immix, in partnership with Liverpool Biennial, present the world premiere of Bold by Name, Bold by Nature by Liverpool-based vocalist and songwriter Jennifer John, and Manchester-based guitarist and composer, Stuart McCallum.
The performance will take place in the stunning Civil Court, in the iconic, Grade I listed St. George’s Hall. The programme will also feature world premieres of new works by Immix’s composer-in-residence, Andrew PM Hunt, and artistic director Daniel Thorne.
Bold by Name, Bold by Nature, commissioned by Immix, looks at the pulse of the city and the heart of the people of Liverpool - the rhythm and the space; the joy and the dis-chord - drawing on a wide range of themes including Liverpool as a port, it's architecture and its people, enslavement and the slave trade, the city centre, Hillsborough, and the loss of Jennifer's father. It also features an immersive electronic soundtrack, designed by McCallum, that will accompany the live performers.
There are a limited number of free tickets available to under 18's and those claiming JSA - please email info@immixensemble.co.uk to claim a place.
Immix is a Liverpool-based new music ensemble who focus on collaborations with innovative musical voices from across the UK, with an emphasis on artists from the Merseyside area. Drawing on the talents of some of the country’s finest instrumentalists, Immix exists as a vehicle to champion the work of forward thinking composers, songwriters, bands and electronic artists, and to cast a spotlight on emerging talent, especially artists whose work slips between the cracks of style and genre. Since its beginning in 2014, Immix has commissioned a substantial body of new music through collaborations with a diverse range of artists including Jane Weaver, Luke Abbott, Ex-Easter Island Head, Bill Ryder-Jones, Vessel, Stealing Sheep & Fearghus O’Conchuir, Jeff Young, James Canty, Dialect, Lucy Pankhurst, Paul McGhee, John McGrath, Rachel Nicholas, Tom Cowcher, Joe Hillyard and Daniel Thorne. They have released recordings on the much-lauded Erased Tapes label, as well as on the local imprint Product.
Immix’s work is centred around commissions to a wide range of artists - musicians, visual artists, choreographers and writers. These commissions are intended to promote collaboration across the spectrum of the music and wider arts community, with the aim of bringing together like-minded musicians and sowing seeds for future collaborations.
Immix is supported using public funding by the National Lottery through Arts Council England, the PRS Foundation’s The Open Fund, and Sound and Music’s Composer-Curator programme.
Immix was originally developed as part of a Metal Time and Space residency.
