Join Julie Lomax  in conversation with Joe Cotgrave as they discuss funding in the arts, focussing on its challenges, professional development, and how to find and make the most of opportunities.

Julie Lomax is Director of Development at Liverpool Biennial. She originally trained as an artist, graduating from Chelsea School of Art in 1987. Her extensive experience in arts management in the UK included the post of Director of Visual Arts for the London region for Arts Council England, with responsibility for a portfolio of organisations including the Whitechapel Gallery, Serpentine Gallery and Artangel. She joined the Australia Council for the Arts in February 2012, where she was responsible for $13.1 million funding for artists and visual arts organisations.

Joe Cotgrave is an artist, currently based in Liverpool, studying for an MA in Fine Art at LJMU and curatorial trainee at Liverpool Biennial. His practice currently engages with LGBT issues such as HIV transmission, stigma and masculinity, translated through his most recent body of work ‘Elite Controller’. He has been involved with a number of group shows, including FANTASTIC RUBBISH; Liverpool (2016), The Royal Standard; Nantes, France (2016), Mother of Invention; Leeds (2015) and The Rag Factory; London (2014). He also has his first solo show fast approaching at The Trophy Room, Liverpool, September 2016.

This event is part of The City is a School, an experimental educational project that involves the Mediation and Volunteer team for Liverpool Biennial 2016. The public programme includes workshops, discussions, performances and film screenings.
