Come together and help us grow a community garden in the heart of Toxteth.

For Liverpool Biennial 2018, artist Mohamed Bourouissa is working with the local community, gardeners, school pupils, teachers and artists to create a new garden and space of ‘resilience’. Join us every Saturday for our free gardening and growing sessions for the whole family. Activities include gardening, watercolour painting, games, plant potting, seed bomb-making and more.

This Saturday at 3pm, join Liverpool Biennial’s Education Curator Polly Brannan for a tour of the Resilience Garden.

The project is inspired by a garden the artist encountered in Blida, Algeria, made by a patient of the psychoanalyst and writer Frantz Fanon. Fanon’s patient underwent occupational therapy through gardening, reflecting the organisation of his mental space in the structure of his garden. Bourouissa will create a similar garden in collaboration with Kingsley Community School, working with the local community, gardeners, school pupils, teachers and artists.

The site is next to the Adult Learning Centre and on the grounds of the school.

Please be aware this can be a messy activity, so appropriate clothing should be worn.

Mohamed Bourouissa, Resilience Garden, 2018 is commissioned by Liverpool Biennial in partnership with Kingsley Community School and Granby Four Streets CLT. Supported by Postcode Local Trust, Fluxus and Granby Continental Store.
