This tour looks at how the works of artist Aslan Gaisimov revolve around the narratives passed to him through his family
A Chechen artist, Gaisumov’s work depicts the social and personal effects of the region’s conflict. In Keicheyuhea, exhibiting at St George's Hall, the artist follows his grandmother visiting her home land for the first time since her displacement 73 years earlier. At Victoria Gallery & Museum, in People of No Consequence the artist documents the gathering of a group of elderly men and women, all survivors of the 1944 Soviet deportation of the Chechen and Ingush nations to Central Asia.
This tour will begin at St George's Hall before moving to Victoria Gallery & Museum.
