Dazzle Ship: Tours of the Edmund Gardner

Dazzle Ship: Induction Chromatique à Double Fréquence pour l’Edmund Gardner Ship / Liverpool. Carlos Cruz-Diez, Paris, 2014

Our volunteer led guided tours take visitors back in time to when the Edmund Gardner was a working pilot cutter, playing a crucial role in ensuring the safe passage of shipping into and out of Liverpool. See behind the scenes on the ship from the wheelhouse to the engine room, and find out more about the history of the Liverpool pilots service including how they operate today. And find out more about the exciting transformation into a dazzle ship in 2014.

Advance booking is essential, telephone 0151 478 4499 or enquire at the Museum of Liverpool information desk on the day of the tours to see if any spaces are available. Please wear appropriate sensible footwear for a safe and enjoyable visit. Meeting point is the Museum of Liverpool foyer.

Using the pilot ship Edmund Gardner as his canvas, Venezuelan artist Carlos Cruz-Diez has responded to the practice of Dazzle painting in a new work co-commissioned by Liverpool Biennial, 14-18 NOW, WW1 Centenary Art Commissions and Tate Liverpool, in partnership with Merseyside Maritime Museum.
