The public is invited to activate Chou Yu-Cheng’s sculptural installation at St George’s Hall by throwing rocks at it over three days in October.

Chemical Gilding, Keep Calm, Galvanise, Pray, Gradient, Ashes, Manifestation, Unequal, Dissatisfaction, Capitalise, Incense Burner, Survival, Agitation, Hit, Day Light (2015) interrogates the act of protest. Made of shiny panels of galvanised steel, the work alludes to department stores, consumer culture and elements of cheap housing, but also shows the results of human interaction – the sculpture is covered with dents. The artist conceived the gold-plated work during a residency at Künstlerhaus Bethanien, Berlin, and invited the public to destroy its flawless surface by throwing rocks at it.

An activation in Liverpool also take place on 21 October 2018.
