Dale Harding (b. 1982, Moranbah, Australia) is a descendant of the Bidjara, Ghungalu and Garingbal peoples of Central Queensland and lives in Brisbane, Australia. Working in diverse techniques and traditions, including painting, installation, sculpture, domestic handicrafts, stencilling, woodcarving and silicone casting, Harding is renowned for works that explore the untold histories of his communities. For Liverpool Biennial 2018, he has created a new wall-based work at Tate Liverpool inspired by rock art sites in Queensland and using a stencil technique practised by the artist’s ancestors.

Three Blue Breaths is a special limited edition artwork by Harding made on the occasion of Liverpool Biennial 2018: Beautiful world, where are you? Each work has been created with the artist's own breath applying Reckitt’s Blue to paper. He describes the edition below.

"Since I began working with Reckitt’s Blue laundry squares as an art material, many people have shared with me their memories of the beautiful blue that remained on the stirring sticks and bags of their familial laundries. While it has not been such a feature of my home life, I did inherit memories and oral histories of Reckitt’s Blue as a stain in the lives of the women and girls who were indentured as domestic servants under the auspice of the Department of Native Affairs, of past Queensland Governments. Some of these women and girls became my Elders.

Here are three breaths drawn, released and drawn again. Memories and inheritances illustrated anew."
