Andreas Angelidakis (b. 1968, Athens, Greece) lives in Athens. Trained as an architect, Angelidakis’ multidisciplinary practice often focuses around the internet, and the perceptive and behavioural changes it has brought about. Inspired by the city of Athens, his work often deals with the notion of ruin, be it ancient, contemporary or imaginary. He often starts with an existing building, producing models, films, ruins, installations or alternative histories, blurring fact and fiction, smoothing out the borders between the real and the virtual.
For Liverpool Biennial 2016 Andreas Angelidakis has been invited to respond to the episodic structure of the exhibition and to act as a ‘connector’ between works by various artists. To do this, he has invented a device that could potentially unlock a fourth dimension. Inspired by the mark of the particle collider and the mark that the beer bottle leaves on a napkin, the artist has created Collider, a circular space which divides the former canning hall at Cains Brewery into three, hosting different works in its corridors and on its surfaces, allowing episodes to unfold inside and outside of it.
Recent exhibitions include Chicago Architecture Biennial, Chicago, USA (2015); Baltic Triennial of International Art, Vilnius, Lithuania(2015); PAC Milano, Milan, Italy (2015); CAPC Bordeaux, Bordeaux, France (2015); Het Nieuwe Instituut Rotterdam, Rotterdam, the Netherlands(2015); Berlin Biennial, Berlin, Germany (2014); National Museum of Contemporary Art Athens, Greece (2014); Swiss Institute for Contemporary Art New York, USA (2014); and DESTE Foundation, Athens, Greece (2013).
