Iacopo Seri (b. 1983, Arezzo, Italy) lives in Naples, Italy. After completing his MA in Visual Arts at IUAV, University of Architecture in Venice, Italy, Seri lived in Germany, Mexico and Canada. His practice revolves around revelations, signs and the ‘living myths’ (a concept borrowed from mythologist Joseph Campbell) concealed within people’s commonplace habits. By making use of performative activities, language, non-ordinary states of consciousness, and tangible and intangible imagery, Seri seeks to transform commonplace actions into vehicles for the unconventional understanding of the mystery of humanity.

In the first-floor bar of the Playhouse theatre, Iacopo Seri is creating a new work exploring drunkenness and the effect of altered states in relation to forms of reality and artistic production. The project takes the form of a communal workshop over the opening weekend of the Biennial, with transcriptions from the collective discussion subsequently published in a zine.

Highlight exhibitions include Lac O Le Mon, Lecce, Italy (2017); Helicotrema, Turin, Italy (2016); Soma/Ex Teresa, Mexico City, Mexico (2015); Biquini Wax, Mexico City, Mexico (2014); Miami, Bogotà, Colombia (2014); dOCUMENTA (13), Kassel, Germany (2012); and Fondazione Ratti, Como, Italy (2011).
