Dominique Gonzalez-Foerster (b. 1965, Strasbourg) lives and works in France and produces work in a variety of media including film. Since the late 1980s she has created a series of narrative room installations that often recall the private spaces of her own apartments. These works invariably combine visual images, light, sound and furniture. Viewers are invited to experience a memory or a story of a person as if they are reading a book or watching a movie. As a result of this approach, many of the ‘rooms’ evoke a sense of cinematic space.
